Xfi New drivers

Has anyone had any luck with the new creative drivers released on 7-12-06 for the X Fi series sound cards? I spent a few hours yesterday trying different things; disabled UAP, firewall, windows defender, after f8 at boot up disabled compatibility warning, ran the suggested script given by Creative. Uninstalled after each attempt with reboot <sigh>. Good thing it’s just a hobby! I am going to burn the new drivers on a disk after work today and try all the other stuff and see what happens… . If anyone has had similar problems please share your thoughts/suggestions. Thanks, bjbb

I actually have succeeded in installing the July beta release of the beta drivers for the x-fi XtreemeMusic card on Build 5472. It actually also installs the Audio Console CPL so that you may configure the card using Creative's code (much more compatible than the flaky Vista Audio Devices Setup Algorithm). A few caveats though:
1) Disallow the feature of allowing applications of having exclusive access the audi card. This causes major freezups as software refuse to relinquish the lock on the card to other apps.
2) Install as Administrator (disable UAC temporarily via the secpol.msc).
3) Avoid WMP 11 at all costs!!! Use more proven and mature applications that trully understand what an audio card does for a living on the motherboard of a computer...such as Winamp. WMP has a major stuttering problem and crash ad-nauseum when trying to play any media file. An of course the DRM interferes constantly. WMP was WAY more useful.
That should do it.
Chance.
